Pool Table Refelting

New cloth on the bed and rails, and the slate seen properly.

Cloth fails where the game wears it: the break spot, the top rail under resting hands, and the mouths of the pockets. Once one of those is through, the rest is generally thin enough that replacing the lot is the cheaper decision.

It is also the only visit where the bed is bare, so seams, bolts and cushion rubber are inspected rather than taken on trust, and any levelling is done then. Fitting new cloth over a bed that has drifted just buries the fault under something you have paid for.

Choosing the cloth

Woollen against worsted changes the way the table plays more than colour ever will.

  • Woollen cloth has a nap, plays slower, and wears politely in a room where everyone gets a turn.
  • Worsted cloth is smooth and fast, the surface most league and hall tables use. Balls carry further than most people expect at first.
  • Colour is free choice: darker cloth hides chalk dust, lighter cloth shows wear sooner.
  • Rooms with big west-facing glass will fade cloth over time, unevenly, wherever the afternoon beam lands. Worth considering when the table's position is still open.
  • Cushion rubber can be replaced at the same visit, and should be if the rails are returning balls dead.

Tell us the table size and whether you want it quicker or steadier, and the cloth choices come back with the quote.

What finished looks like

The bed is read for level at the seams and at each pocket before the crew leaves, and read again once the cloth is on. A table that sends balls to one rail on its own has not been finished.

Work is booked into a morning or an early afternoon window and confirmed when the quote is accepted. Buildings that require a lift reservation or a certificate of insurance need a few days' notice, so say so early.
